State Rep. Karl Bohnak recently secured $4.3 million for U.P. projects in the state House budget proposal for next year. While the proposal is not final – negotiations on a final budget are still ongoing with the Senate and governor – it is a meaningful first step toward securing final funding for critical U.P. projects.
“It’s been my honor to work with so many U.P. officials on all these important projects,” said Bohnak, R-Deerton. “From key infrastructure updates in schools and communities, to critical tax assistance, to support for our emergency services, the projects we were able to include in the House budget are a reflection of much-needed investments across the U.P.
“While there is still a long road of negotiations ahead of us, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate and Gov. Whitmer on these important funding decisions.”
Projects Bohnak successfully advocated for include:
- $1.4 million for a revitalization of the pick-up/drop-off area at Superior Central Schools
- $35,000 for key tax assistance in Marquette County
- $682,000 for flooding-related road repairs in Baraga County
- $500,000 to the 906 Adventure Team for development of a community park in Marquette
- $1 million for a road project in Waucedah Township
- $700,000 for the purchase of a new fire truck in Negaunee
