State Rep. Cam Cavitt this week honored local emergency managers for their work during the devastating ice storm earlier this year.

“Our county emergency managers were the backbone of our recovery efforts and their service to Northeast Michigan should be recognized,” Cavitt said.

The following is the text of the tributes given to the four emergency managers:

Tribute to Director Kim Elkie, Alpena County

In the face of the March 2025 ice storm, Director Elkie’s leadership was instrumental in coordinating emergency response efforts, restoring services, ensuring public safety, and guiding the region through crisis. Her calm presence, tireless work, and collaboration with local, state, and utility partners made a profound impact on the lives of Northeast Michiganders.

Emergency management is often a quiet calling until the moment it is most needed. Director Elkie has exemplified the values of preparation, resilience, and service throughout her career.

In special tribute, we commend her courage, leadership, and dedication to the people of Northeast Michigan and thank her for a job truly well done.
