Rep. David W. Martin yesterday voted for a resolution to protect women’s sports. House Resolution 40, which passed the House Wednesday with bipartisan support, strongly encourages the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) to promptly align with President Trump’s Executive Order 14201, which bans men from women’s sports through Title IX enforcement.

“I ran on common sense, and this is a common sense policy that the vast majority of the public supports,” Martin said. “We need to protect our daughters. We don’t need biological males stealing their scholarships, unfairly winning their tournaments, or hurting them on the field. I will always defend female athletes and their gender-specific athletic programs.”

The MHSAA currently has a policy on the books allowing males who identify as transgender to compete in female high school sports. The association has not yet changed its policy since the executive order was issued on February 6.

“It’s important the MHSAA scraps its current policy to allow for a safe environment for young women,” Martin said. “Girls across the country have gotten seriously injured because of these policies. They feel cheated and often very uncomfortable. I will continue to stand with them, and I trust the athletic association will do the same.”
