HB 5301:  Would expand the time period during which licensed hunters may carry an unloaded weapon while using artificial light when traveling to or from their hunting location.

Sponsor:  Rep. Bohnak (R)

Passage:  92-15 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Hunters would have more time in low-light conditions to walk to hunting stands, leave hunting areas safely, use flashlights or headlamps for navigation.

HB 5715:  Would require the Michigan National Guard to provide payment to members of any status via direct deposit or electronic transfer.

Sponsor:  Rep. Schmaltz (R)

Passage:  107-0 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Direct deposit is commonplace and should be offered to ALL members of Michigan’s National Guard.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 4902-4904:  Removes a professional disclosure statement requirement and removes several provisions relating to licensees credentialed before 1993.

Sponsors:  Reps. VanderWall (R), Meerman (R), & DeBoer (R)

Passages:  107-0 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The disclosure requirement adds red tape, and its intent could be accomplished by simpler, less bureaucratic means.

HB 5619:  FY 2026-27 General Omnibus Budget

Sponsor:  Rep. Bollin (R)

Passage:  56-51 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The House Republicans’ plan reduces the overall state budget and cuts nearly $600 million in state (general fund) spending, protects the rainy-day fund, and makes major investments in roads, schools, and public safety without asking taxpayers for another dime.

HB 5630:  FY 2026-27 Education Omnibus Budget

Sponsor:  Rep. Bollin (R)

Passage:  56-49 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The House Republicans’ plan invests more in higher education for Michigan students. Universities serving more in-state students will receive a 3% increase. Funding reductions for institutions with higher out-of-state enrollment will be redirected to provide more resources for Michigan students. Additionally, alongside our strong investments in childcare, we’re also putting in real accountability measures to make sure taxpayer dollars are protected and reach families who need them. That means tighter oversight, stronger eligibility checks, and a system built to prevent the kind of fraud and abuse other states have experienced, like what we’ve seen reported in Minnesota. We want to support working parents and expand access to childcare while ensuring every dollar is spent responsibly and transparently.
