Rep. Woolford’s election integrity plan moves forward to protect voters
RELEASE|March 17, 2026

State Rep. Jason Woolford (R-Howell) today announced the advancement of his plan to strengthen election security as it passed out of the House Committee on Election Integrity.

House Bill 4765 would require individuals registering to vote to verify their U.S. citizenship status through approved documentation and voters casting a ballot would be required to present a valid ID.

“Michigan residents deserve to know their votes are protected and that our elections cannot be manipulated,” said Woolford. “Requiring proof of citizenship and voter ID is a commonsense safeguard that protects every legal voter. If you are legally allowed to vote, these requirements should be easy and straightforward. But we cannot stand by while loopholes threaten the integrity of our elections.

“Opposition to these protections is alarming. The only reason to fight voter ID laws or citizenship verification is to leave the system vulnerable to abuse. Every vote must be legitimate, every ballot must be secure, and every Michigan voter must know their voice counts. We will not allow careless rules or bad actors to undermine our elections. Our duty is to protect the integrity of the process and ensure that Michigan’s elections are fair, honest, and trustworthy.”

HB 4765 now moves to the House floor for further consideration.
